With love for our planet
JBX PaperPak is a family-run paper packaging manufacturer founded in and operating out of Dublin, Ireland.
We operate out of our 1000-square-metre factory equipped with state-of-the-art machinery. We are among the first Irish-owned and Ireland-based companies manufacturing high-quality paper packaging products primarily for the food and beverage industry, while also serving a number of other sectors. Our industry leading expertise, modern technology and food-grade manufacturing materials mean our customers enjoy the very highest standard of paper packaging products. We specialise in manufacturing paper straws; we use 3-ply premium-quality food-grade Kraft paper and non-toxic adhesives, inks and lacquer to produce totally reliable, biodegradable and sustainable straws. Many paper straw manufacturers claim their straws are recyclable when they in fact are not; at JBX, our straws are 100% microplastics-free and they really are 100% recyclable.

Find Out About Our
Eco-Mission & Services
Our planet is at crisis point. We can no longer ignore all the scientific data warning us of the critical state our environment is in. Plastic is among worst offending contributors to the climate crisis we are faced with today. From the extraction of oil to the manufacturing of plastic, the ecological toll of this process can no longer be denied. As well as the problems arising from production, the pollution caused by discarded plastic is devastating our planet. There are more than 170 million tonnes of plastic in our oceans, with 8-14 million tonnes more being added every single year. Over 300,000 tonnes of plastic floats on the surface and 8 million new plastic items find their way into the ocean on a daily basis.
Plastic has been found in parts of the ocean over 11km deep, showing that plastic truly is wreaking havoc across all marine ecosystems. Every year, over 100,000 marine animals and 1 million sea birds die as a result of plastic pollution and 1-in-3 fish caught are found to have plastic in the contents of their stomachs. In the UK, over 4.5 billion plastic straws are thrown away every year; in the US it is over 50 million per day. This kind of unchecked consumption is why more than 9 billion straws currently pollute coastlines all around the world. There needs to be real change in how we all use plastic for the sake of the planet, and that change is exactly what JBX Paperpak intends to be.
At JBX PaperPak
We are dedicated to bringing about real, meaningful change in the way we treat our planet. We pride ourselves on the honesty, integrity and transparency with which we operate. We are upfront and open about what we do, and about how we do it. We make it our business to stand up to plastic and challenge the damage it is doing to our oceans and our landscapes. From our 100% recyclable, compostable and biodegradable plastic-free non-toxic products that we regularly check for quality, to our fully recyclable packaging materials, to our annual organised beach cleans all around the world, conscientiousness is our core virtue. Products marketed as being ‘sustainable’ have outperformed the growth of conventional products throughout 2019 and 2020, showing us we are not alone in our desire to combat the ecological harm caused by industry. The world is shifting away from plastic towards greener, more sustainable alternatives; this trend makes us at JBX very happy.
There are a number of alternatives to plastic flooding the market, particularly for drinking straws. There are steel, glass, bamboo and silicone options to name just a few of the more popular products. However, the way we manufacture our paper straws, using 3-ply food grade kraft paper and lacquer to ensure structural integrity, means that ours are the superior choice. Biting straws is a common habit for many people; what happens when you bite a paper straw? Nothing. When you bite a steel straw not only can this be very painful, but it can also risk causing damage to your teeth. If you bite a glass straw it could chip, risking having shards of sharp glass in your mouth. Bamboo straws need to be properly cared for and constantly maintained, if not they will brown and lose the properties that make them usable as drinking straws. As for silicone, these straws also require frequent cleaning and upkeep to ensure they remain usable. Packing a few of our lightweight and reliable paper straws with you whenever you travel is by far the best option.

Biodegradable Straws
At JBX PaperPak, our business model centres around safeguarding the environment from current industrial practices. Plastic dependency is a major concern across all major industries; as a result, plastic pollution is one of the biggest concerns facing our planet today. Even a small piece of plastic will take centuries to biodegrade and with so much plastic ending up in landfill or in the ocean, this is of great concern to us. Our paper straws are a simple yet powerful solution to this problem.
Unlike plastic, our paper straws are completely biodegradable. We manufacture all of our straws ourselves – something not many paper straw retailers can honestly claim – in our factory in Ireland, therefore we know everything that goes into making them. Premium quality food grade kraft paper, non-toxic adhesive and lacquer. That’s it. No hidden plastics, no harmful adhesives or anything else that could hurt a person or the environment. There is already a terrifying amount of plastic polluting our oceans and being stacked up in landfill, damaging the environment and causing harm to wildlife. This is a problem JBX is entirely committed to to creating solutions for.
When you buy our straws, you can be safe in the knowledge that you are not contributing to the toll that plastic pollution is taking on our environment. We are determined to help bring about a shift in industry towards a sustainable model that is not dependent on plastic. With new EU legislation set to come into effect in 2021 banning many types of single-use plastics, our straws are a simple yet effective way to help future-poof your business and make your practices more ethical.

Compostable Straws
At JBX PaperPak, we make it our business to protect the environment. Plastic pollution is one of the most serious problems facing the planet, and plastic straws are among the top ten worst offenders. We are all about finding the best plastic-free alternatives to help relieve the ecological stress plastic pollution is causing. We manufacture our own paper straws in our factory in Ireland and so we know everything that goes into the process. JBX is committed to helping shift industry into a future that is not dependent on plastic, that’s why the straws we make are fully compostable.
The straws we manufacture are made from 3-ply premium-quality food grade kraft paper, non-toxic adhesives and lacquer. That’s it. Nothing harmful to the environment or to people is anywhere to be found in what we produce, something you cannot be certain of with cheap imports from countries that do not emphasize plastic-free production. Our straws can be disposed of without the fear of the environmental damage that plastic straws cause as plastic, unlike paper, takes centuries to breakdown.
It matters to us whether or not we are conducting our business in the most environmentally friendly way possible, and so we know it matters to you as well. That’s why we make it our business to make your business ethical and sustainable in the easiest way possible. With the EU single-use plastic ban set to come into effect in 2021, our paper straws are the best alternative to plastic available on the market.

Frequently Asked Questions
Our paper straws are made by stacking 3 plies of high-quality food grade kraft paper and putting them through a core-winding machine that applies an adhesive and rolls the straws into shape. They are then cut to size, coated in lacquer to ensure quality and are then ready to be sold.
